Famous New Zealanders

This is my page of a collection of some of the most famous New Zealanders

Enjoy!

                                                        Charles Frederick Goldie O.B.E

                                                                         (1870 -1947)

This is one of my most favourite autographs in my whole collection, is this original hand signed signature of New Zealand's most famous artist, Charles F Goldie ,who was born in 1870 in Auckland, and died in Auckland in  July 1947. He painted old time Maoris, and was very well known for doing them with a photographic, realistic look using oil paints. His paintings are among the most vaulable artworks in New Zealand. This signature is written, along with an inscription which has been torn away, in black ink with a fountain pen and is on the back label on one of his prints, from around 1938-1943. "To" and the letter "A'' over the "W" in the word "New" is what's left of the inscription. Goldie was infamously known in his latter life for signing thousands of different versions his signature on docoments and in pages in his own books, as he became metally ill. He was forged by Karl Sim, who now unfortunely has been signing his name as "Carl Feodor Goldie", (CF Goldie).

A "First Day Cover" of the 35th anniversary of VE Day, which has been hand signed by Captain Charles Upham VC and Bar in 1980. Charles Upham was a famous New Zealand soldier during World War 2. He was awarded the Victoria Cross twice for bravery.

                                                                      Billy T James M.B.E
